Cairo Opera House chooses Electro-Voice XLC

April 29th, 2009

The Cairo Opera House recently invested in a mobile sound reinforcement system comprising loudspeakers, microphones, and amplifiers from Electro-Voice - sound solutions that match the high quality of the cultural events they are designed to reinforce.

The Cairo Opera House, a cultural center of considerable national importance, is part of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture. It houses seven different stages and forms an umbrella organization beneath which the city’s music and dance companies, art galleries, museums, and training programs can flourish. In addition to the high-caliber indoor events that have helped make the venue internationally famous, the organizers are now set to offer a program of outdoor events, for which they have invested heavily in systems from Electro-Voice from Egyptian partner Alpha Audio.

The core of the new system is an Electro-Voice XLC rig including 18 XLC127DVX loudspeakers and eight XLC215 subwoofers. These are complemented by eight PX1122M, four QRx153/75 enclosures, and two QRx218S subwoofers. The system, which is equally suitable for the reproduction of music and the spoken word, is driven by 19 TG5 amplifiers. The order placed with Alpha Audio included a variety of microphones from EV’s N/D series.

About the Cairo Opera House

The new opera house in Cairo, for which President Mubarak laid the foundation stone in 1985, was built by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and officially opened in 1988. The breathtaking building features traditional Islamic architecture and therefore blends in beautifully with the surrounding buildings. Housing seven different theaters fitted with the latest equipment, the venue supports a diverse program of cultural events in which the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, the Cairo Opera/Ballet, the Cairo Opera, the Modern Dance Theater Company, and the National Arab Music Ensemble all feature regularly.
