Olympics on display at Munich Airport with Electro-Voice sound

September 30th, 2008

Seldom can waiting for a flight have been as tedium-free as at Munich Airport during the summer Olympics. The reason? Live relays of the Games displayed on giant screens as a service to passengers. Magic Event & Medientechnik GmbH was responsible for the production of these viewing parties. To provide optimum sound reinforcement for the airport’s large but oddly-shaped outdoor viewing area, with its sound-reflecting glass and plexiglass facades, the Olching-based acoustics experts opted for an Electro-Voice solution, the centerpiece of which was made up of an XLD line array system driven by Electro-Voice TG-7 and TG-5 power amplifiers with IRIS-Net software.

16 XLD281 enclosures along with four EV Xsubs were used to cover the 50 x 40-meter improvised auditorium, making it possible for interested passengers to follow the commentary and keep abreast of the latest developments in Beijing as the competitions unfolded. For Markus Thomae, Managing Director of Magic Medientechnik, space constraints posed the biggest challenge: “We had very little room in which to put the PA. Fortunately the EV XLD is ultra-compact, so we soon had the situation under control.“ In fact, since investing in an XLD system back in March 2007, Thomae has had nothing but positive experiences with it. “It delivers the best coverage possible from such a compact system. In addition, the XLD is enormously versatile. With each new production, it convinces us all over again.“
