EV, DYNACORD, MIDAS & KLARK TEKNIK HELP OUT AT HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF CONCERT
The line-up featured a Who’s Who of South Florida Gospel talent, including Stellar Award winners The Miami Mass Choir featuring Pastor Mark Cooper, Kendall Hunter and The New Praise Crew, The Ingram Singers, Second Chapter, The Woods, Rev. Melvin Dawson and Genesis, The Miracle Lights and Times 3. Harold Cummings of Drummer Boy Sound Productions (DBS) was contacted by gospel artist and event promoter Kendall Hunter to provide a worthy PA for the fundraiser. Cummings reported:
“This was a free benefit concert, so obviously the production budget was an issue. Originally, Kendall Hunter wanted to use the church’s house sound system, and he brought me in as a consultant to see if the house PA was up to the job, which it wasn’t. To ensure that all donations would go to the American Red Cross, rather than towards rental costs, DBS decided to donate a quality rig and production services for the event.“
DBS used the following equipment:
Midas Verona (32 channel)
Dynacord Cobra system (2) Cobra Tops per side, (2) Cobra Subs per side and (1) Cobra PWH sub per side, including the dedicated Cobra amp rack w/ (1) Dynacord DSP244 loudspeaker processor and (2) Dynacord L2400 power amplifiers
EV CP2200 power amps (3)
EV Plasma P1 powered loudspeakers (2 used as monitors)
EV QRX112 loudspeaker (4 used as monitors)
EV RE-1 dual wireless receivers (3 units / 6 channels total)
EV RE-1 handheld transmitter w/ N/D767 dynamic capsules (5)
EV RE-1 handheld transmitter w/ RE510 condensercapsule (1)
EV ZX1 loudspeaker (1 used as FOH monitor)
Klark Teknik DN100 direct box (5)
Cummings continued: “We brought in a PA that would offer the ideal balance of big production sound and small production setup, based around our Dynacord Cobra-2 system, a Midas Verona console, EV monitors and wireless mic systems. We’ve had great success with the Cobra at a wide range of indoor and outdoor events, and it continues to surprise people in being so compact a package with so much power and coverage - people don’t believe their eyes are seeing what their ears are hearing! Add on the other top quality elements of this PA, and you have some serious performance for such a small footprint.“
Having this line up of equipment made the sound quality and mixing duties a breeze. Richard Cardenas (senior sound engineer of DBS) commented: “Every step of the signal path sounded great. I continue to be amazed by the Verona’s EQ section, the Klark Teknik DN100 direct boxes are the best we’ve heard, the EV wireless systems always work flawlessly, and the Cobra rig has all the headroom we need to really bring out the power of gospel performances. We were pleased to lend a helping hand and make this benefit concert a success. We wanted the concert to sound and feel first rate, and, even though we donated our services, we didn’t want - or need - to cut corners in sound quality and professionalism.“
