Electro-Voice Endorser Levon Helm Wins Grammy!
Electro-Voice is extremely proud to call Levon Helm one of its artist endorser family members-and would like to congratulate Levon and the staff at Levon Helm Studios for their recent Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album, as well as The Band’s recognition by the Grammy Foundation for Lifetime Achievement. We would like to thank Levon and his staff for their continual support of Electro-Voice as we celebrate 80 years as an American professional audio equipment manufacturer.
About Levon Helm and the Grammy Award-winning Album, Dirt Farmer
Alumnus of immortal musical outfit The Band-and a legend in his own right for masterful acting in such films as The Right Stuff, Shooter, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, and the soon-to-be released In the Electric Mist-Levon Helm recently released his first studio recording in 25 years, Dirt Farmer. Levon sings and plays drums, guitar and mandolin on the CD, accompanied by Larry Campbell (of Bob Dylan’s band) on guitars and fiddle, and the voices of Amy Helm and Teresa Williams. The record explores songs Levon learned as a boy in Arkansas and others in classic American bluegrass, blues, spiritual and folk styles.
“Growing up on a cotton farm in the Arkansas Delta, Dirt Farmer rings true to home,“ Levon said. “Amy encouraged me to go all the way back and try to record some of the family songs from home that we always loved best.“
The record’s much anticipated release not only re-established Levon Helm as one of America’s authentic musical voices but also erased suspicions that Helm’s bout with throat cancer a decade ago may have somehow affected his signature voice, that combination of classic “High Lonesome“ styling and the intense, emotive, hair-raising timbre that we’ve all come to recognize as unmistakably Levon. And that is precisely what the listener gets with Dirt Farmer: Levon’s musicianship and singing at its very best, as real and deeply spiritual as the hues of Arkansas soil.
