Eclipse Sound & Light Invests in EV & Midas Package

December 11th, 2007

“The new equipment made an impact from the day it arrived,“ says Eclipse’s MD Andy Collins, “we’re definitely the big boys in town now!“

Eclipse is headquartered in Ipswich in Suffolk, a company that has grown out of Andy Collins’ journey through all aspects of the sound business, from retailing, to DJ-ing, to providing small PA rigs for local bands and weddings. “We accrued such a lot of equipment that it was easier to expand into a bona fide rental company.“ Eclipse was founded in 2003, and has grown steadily in its local market, building a reputation as a retailer, rental provider, and system installer.

Now Eclipse has purchased an Electro-Voice XLD compact line-array package, 12x XLD281 top boxes plus 4x XLC215 bass bins, powered by EV’s new Tour Grade amplifiers, after a successful trial at the Felixstowe town festival in August, attracting 35,000 people to Langer Park over the weekend. The system is completed by a 48-channel Midas Legend L3000 analogue console, all delivered by Shuttlesound.

Eclipse was already impressed with Electro-Voice, and with the quality of support and service provided by Shuttlesound, having had a range of EV products including Sx300’s, SbA760s and CP amplifiers in its hire fleet. However, the new XLD package has allowed Eclipse to take a quantum leap forward in scale. Within weeks of taking delivery, the company was servicing a huge fireworks event with an audience of around 30,000 people. “We are now getting bigger jobs, and going into larger venues,“ says Collins. “Having an EV line array gives us extra credibility; it gets us in the door for the more sizeable projects. Judging by the signs so far, we should make our money back on this system in its first year.“

“The quality of sound which comes out of these small XLD cabinets is just amazing. The system was loud and clear for an audience of 30,000 standing in a field, yet we took it to the show in the back of a Renault Trafic van! The Tour Grade amplifiers are superb, barely ticking over to run the whole system. My team here at Eclipse is thoroughly impressed by the size of the XLD modules, the SPLs they produce, and the clarity of the output. With EV’s IRIS-Net control protocol, it’s easy to get the settings and programme right, it sounds good, and that’s given us a lot of confidence.“
