ROCKABILLY LEGEND WANDA JACKSON RECORDS VOCALS WITH EV CARDINAL, CONTRIBUTES RENDITION OF “CRAZY“ TO PATSY CLINE TRIBUTE ALBUM
Los Angeles, California (May 2007): Rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson’s trademark vocals were recently recorded with the Electro-Voice Cardinal microphone at Tiki Hut Studios in Hollywood. Digging through his studio microphone cabinet, fellow EV endorser/engineer/performer Danny B. Harvey chose the unique EV condenser as the primary vocal microphone for Wanda’s rendition of Willie Nelson’s masterpiece “Crazy,“ which will appear on a forthcoming Patsy Cline tribute album.
Danny B. Harvey remarks: “The way Wanda sings, she’s old school... She uses monitors, not headphones when she records, which can prove difficult for the engineer. I wanted to use a condenser on her voice but knew that I’d be potentially facing severe feedback problems. I decided to give the EV Cardinal a try and it performed fantastically in the situation. And it captured every subtle nuance of Wanda’s amazing voice. I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again.“
About Wanda Jackson
Wanda recorded for Decca Records for two years (1954 & 1955), and for Capitol Records for a respectable 18 years (1956-1973). She now records for legendary bluegrass label CMH Records. Wanda has recorded somewhere between 50 to 60 albums. She continues to perform around the world.
Wanda Jackson has been nominated for the Grammy Award twice in the category best performing female singer. She has been inducted into the Oklahoma Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the International Hall of Fame, the International Gospel Music Hall of Fame, and most recently, the German Country Music Hall of Fame. She has also been awarded the Oklahoma Native Daughter Award. Wanda was on the final ballot for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, 2005, and will continue to give it a run.
