South Plains College Sound Technology students train with EV’ microphones

Levelland, TX (January 7, 2005): The Creative Arts Department at South Plains College, Levelland, Texas, offers a Commercial Music program, a Sound Technology program and a Video Production Technology program. The Department’s instructors believe in a hands-on approach to training prospective performance production professionals. That said, an essential element of every Commercial Music and Sound Technology student’s training includes knowing what mics and mic techniques minimize plosives and “P-popping“… Reflecting this dedication to bringing the “real world’ of sound production into the classroom, Sound Technology instructor Matt Quick uses a range of EV mics as instructional tools. He explained:

“So many of our microphones are already at work 24-hours a day, either live or in the studio. But rather than hold up a picture of a mic while lecturing, we wanted students to become more familiar with the size, shape and feel of various mics as a key element of doing their job properly. Another prominent mic manufacturer offered us their whole range as dummies, and another offered us mics that had come in for repairs. That was fine, and we really appreciated it, and built a display case to house the mics. Then (Telex/EV Rep) Ron Grant came down, saw the mics we had, and said “we can do better than that!’ Now we have a range of fully operational EV mics to provide another facet of the practical attention to detail we strive to provide here at SPC.“
