Electro-Voice EVA premieres in Straubing theatre

August 10th, 2009

Straubing - The “Stadttheater Am Hagen,“ as the municipal theatre in Straubing is known, is an affiliate of the Landestheater Niederbayern (Lower Bavarian State Theatre). In 2003, the theatre was thoroughly renovated and now seats 330. To make it possible to stage lavish musicals and other musical productions in future, it was necessary to reequip the auditorium with new sound equipment. After an initial enquiry in Dec. 2008, TRE Professionelle Audiotechnik, which is based in Parkstetten, was entrusted with the installation. It was supported in this task by Thomas Sterling, PI Sales Manager in Bosch Communications Systems’ Support Centre (South).

The centerpiece of the theatre’s new sound system comprises - for the first time in Europe, Africa and the Middle East - the new Electro-Voice Expandable Vertical Array (EVA) system. This system, which was specially designed for fixed installation, offers excellent audio performance and problem-free handling while being at the same time extremely unobtrusive (with an integral front, covered sides and invisible rigging). The full-range, passive system was installed in the theatre to the left and right of the stage opening with each rig comprising three EVA-2082S/906 enclosures and one EVA-2082S/1220.

“The system convinced us straight away with its even coverage and full-range reproduction across the entire frequency range, for which no additional subwoofers are needed,“ says TRE Professionelle Audiotechnik’s Robert Ernst of the installation. “In the area of signal processing (Electro-Voice Dx38), nothing more was needed than a high-pass filter in the sub-bass region and a low-pass filter at 16kHz to afford the system optimal protection against extremely low and extremely high frequencies.“ The installation is driven by a DSA 8805 from Dynacord. The new multi-channel amplifier is equipped with an RCM-810 module, which makes control via IRIS-Net possible.

About the Expandable Vertical Array (EVA) from Electro-Voice

The EVA Series belongs to the EV-Innovation (EV-I) loudspeaker range from Electro-Voice. It is a new fixed installation system that also offers the acoustic advantages of concert sound line arrays. A feature that will delight architects and interior designers is the invisible rigging hardware, which is fully integrated and hidden from view. EVA is the first line array to have been specially developed for fixed installation and it offers well-defined sound radiation across the entire frequency range.
